João Baptista Borges, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, initiated a tour of the southern region of the country, commencing in Cuanza Sul province on December 11th. He was accompanied by notable figures, including Pedro Afonso, President of the PRODEL Board of Directors, Hélder Adão from ENDE, Elsa Ramos, the National Director of Waters, and other senior officials from MINEA and its associated companies. Throughout the visit, various projects overseen by the sector in that region were examined.
The minister’s first destination was to assess electrification projects in southern Calulo, aimed at providing electricity to Vila da Quibala. The project, which began in January 2023, is currently 81% complete, with an anticipated completion date of August 2023. Additionally, the progress of constructing a high-voltage substation connected to the National Grid, initiated in 2023, was reviewed, with a projected completion date for the following year. This project, currently 75% complete and providing employment for 150 individuals directly, will ultimately benefit 28 communities in the region.
Minister Baptista Borges evaluated the operational status of the Quibala Water Supply System, suggesting that it should undergo rehabilitation to promptly serve thirty thousand people. While en route to Huambo province, the minister observed advancements in implementing the first Transformation Posts (TPs) that will supply electricity to the mentioned communities.
